Momology

Two weeks ago, we started our 2010/2011 MOPS year. ~If you are interested in a MOPS group in your area, click on the MOPS link above for more info.~ This year, the theme is Momology: The Art & Science of Mothering. It's going to be a great year! I'm so excited and can't wait to read the book that goes along with this theme.

Yesterday, we had the Minister to Preschoolers from a local church come and share to the group about how to parent preschoolers. She was great! I wish I could have all of the info to share with you but I do want to share one thing that she gave us yesterday.

Shelly Radic from the "Momology" book did a side by side comparison from Psalm 139:1-10 that is from the perspective of how God feels about us and how a child views his mother. I thought it was great and wanted to share it with you.

Psalm 139:1-10

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.

~My mom's constantly thinking about me.

You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

~She organizes all the stuff I do and cares about what's going on in my life.

You discern my going out and my lying down, you are familiar with all my ways.

~She always knows what I'm doing; I think she has eyes in the back of her head!

Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.

~She figures out what I want, sometimes even before I do. It's kind of weird, actually.

You hem me in-behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.

~She's always trying to protect me, holding my hand when danger is near.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

~She knows my favorite food, can find my missing shoe, and keeps a supply of snacks, Band-Aids, and toys in her purse. How does she know me so well?

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

~I know she'll come find me, even if I rocket to the stars or dig to the center of the earth.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.

~She's there for me when I wake up in the morning, as I fall asleep each night, and every minute in between.

Don't you just love that! I'm so thankful that God is always there for us...even for those who don't have a mom or dad in the picture.

I know after my parents got divorced that God was with us and He used my mom in a mighty way in our lives. She was our constant and our security when we felt unsure about a lot of things. Now as an adult and a mom, I can understand some of the challenges that she faced and can understand some of the hardships that parents go through for their children. We want to protect our children in every way possible and always try to give them the absolute best of everything we have. Being a parent is hard sometimes but is the most rewarding blessing of a job that we have been given. It doesn't feel rewarding in those hard times, but in perspective....it really is. You always hear that you wish parenting came with an instruction manual.....it did....it's called the Bible. If we will truly seek what God has showed us as to how to raise our children, then we will be much better for it and so will they!
