Bittersweet

Yes, that is how I feel today. Besides the fact that I have come down with some nasty bug and pretty much feel like I have been hit by a truck...what happened nine years ago weighs heavily on my mind. The sacrifice and loss of life that day is astonishing. Even though we have all pretty much dealt with the grief of that day I still remember it as if it happened yesterday.

That morning, David and I were headed to the dr.s office to confirm that we were indeed pregnant with our first child, MiMi. We had been getting ready at home and David was watching the early news shows and told me that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. We were watching all of the commentaries when all of a sudden, the cameras caught the second plane plowing into the second tower. We couldn't believe it. Of course we all know what the final outcome of that day was, but I was so proud of our country and the police officers and the firefighters who so willingly climbed those towers stairs to give help and ended up paying for it with their lives. I remember the feelings we all felt the following days after. And how we seemed to all come together and love each other and be there for one another. We acted like true citizens towards each other. Everyone had the same look in each other's eyes of compassion and hurt and fear. We all knew what the other was feeling. The reason why I say it was bittersweet was because we were going through the worst thing our country had been through since I had been born, but David and I were so excited because we were going to be bringing this new little life into our world. So many mixed emotions during that time.

The anniversary of this day will always be somber each year, but I truly hope that Americans don't ever forget the feeling that was rippling through the country during that time. We were under attack and came together as a country to be there for those who had lost loved ones. To support each other, be there for each other. There was compassion for others no matter what color you were, what religion you were, what part of the country you lived in etc. It was an unspeakable love. I hope we as a nation don't ever forget.

Thank you to those of you who so willingly go and serve our country everyday!
