Joy & Sorrow

I am experiencing a lot of different emotions right now. Alot has happened since I last posted. Last Friday, I attended Bud's Mother's day luncheon. It was sweet. A few weeks ago he had to turn in what his favorite thing was that I made and he had to describe how to make it. It was quite funny. And then at the Mother's Day luncheon we had to make it and bring it to share with everyone else. He chose brownies. There was all different kinds of food there: brownies, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, flan (?-whatever that is, needless to say I didn't try it), spaghetti, mac & cheese, fruity pancakes,oreos, some type of strawberry dessert and many other things. Here's a few pics from that day.

~He is showing me the oreo he is eating.

~This is the flower pot that he painted for me.

~They had given us some flowers and he was slinging them around on stage. I think there was at least one flower still left on it when he was done.

~This is what he was doing instead of singing his special Mother's Day song..NICE!

Then on Sunday was Mother's Day. D had to work so we met my mom for a picnic after church. We had planned on going to a park where there were ducks and a beautiful lake but it was too windy. Mom couldn't even get the sheet to stay down because of all the wind so we decided to pack it up and we had a little picnic under her carport at her house. It was such a beautiful day. I'm so glad I got to spend it with my mom and my babies and Dee-deed. We then went home and waited for D to get home and then grilled out some yummy steaks and enjoyed being with him. Here are some pics from that afternoon at mom's.

Today was Bud's last day of school and I am so excited! I am his room mom and was in charge of his party. It was alot of fun and hopefully I'll be able to post some pics soon. I totally forgot my camera this morning but one of the other moms took some pics for me.

~~~Also this past weekend I found out that a friends mom was in the hospital. She had been battling cancer for the last 8 or 9 years. Well, she passed away this morning and I am so deeply sad for the loss of her sweet life. Sad for my friends because I know they are hurting right now. I don't know what to do for them or what to say to them. I can't even begin to imagine what they are going through. I feel helpless.
AND then tomorrow Meggy has her end of school year party and then her graduation tomorrow night. I'll be taking lots of tissue's with me over the next few days as I go through joy and sorrow at the same time.
What to do?
I had been wrestling with an important decision about what to do with my little Meggy. She is graduating kindergarten in exactly one week from tonight. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with her for the fall time. I was really worried about it. Do we try to scrimp for private school and then which one? The school I was able to go to is about 45min away and so then we would have to consider gas prices and how much that might costs every week. Of course that was a no. Do we put her in the public school near where we live? What kinds of things would she be exposed to? Is it a good school? Do I homeschool? Will I be able to do it? Will I ruin her? Will she have enough socialization in her life? Will she be smart enough....questions like that. I was talking about it with one of my best friends (who also homeschools) and she said "Have you prayed about it?" **GASP** How could she ask me something like that? Of course I had NOT. AND I'm so glad she was bold enough to ask me. It was like a slap in the face (in a good way) because it reminded me that I was worrying for nothing. Jesus asks us "Who can add a single hour to the day by worrying? " Her question reminded me that I was not trusting in God. I was so wrapped up in worrying that I hadn't taken the time to ask Him what I should do about Meggy's schooling. Another friend of mine (who also homeschools) reminded me that God does not give us a spirit of fear! He allowed me to be a parent and He will enable me to teach my child the way she needs to be taught. He will give me the wisdom I need. So I prayed about it and I felt this peace and all of the apprehension I had seemed to have faded. Now of course I still have questions but the peace is there. So I have decided to homeschool her. And I am actually excited about it. Almost giddy. It's funny to me because of the way I was feeling about a month or two ago. I have talked to several people who have or is currently homeschooled and have gotten lots of information and advice from them and I am planning on attending a homeschool convention this weekend. I am really excited! I know that there may be people or even family who don't agree with homeschooling, but D & I have to do what we feel is best for our family and no one can tell us what's best for us but us. With God's guidance. I truly feel that God has pricked my heart about this...He did it in the past and has done it now. I know He will help me!
The Fragrance of Creation
It is so beautiful outside today and of course I was driving (why is it that I am always driving?? LOL!) around with the sunroof open and I was praying and all of a sudden it hit me. God's creation is so fragrant! I mean, I always knew that it was, but something about that drive was intoxicating. I was going 70-75 miles an hour on the interstate and all I could smell was that sweet scent of honeysuckle almost as if I was standing right in front of a honeysuckle vine. I remember when I was a kid, my sister and I used to love to find some honeysuckle. We would ever so gently separate the flower from the stem to get that little drop of honeysuckle. Did anyone else used to do that? What fun and innocent times those were. And I started thinking about the beach. Maybe it's because I have major beach fever right now, but the beach has it's own distinctive smell..you know what I am talking about. The warm sunshine and the breeze. It's almost as if the sand has a smell..a beachy smell. And then you have the mountains. The air always seems to be so clean and crisp. How could anyone not think that there is a God? What a beautiful and fragrant place He has given us to live on!
Today was "Muffins with Mom" for Meggy's class. It was so sweet. The classes got up on stage and sung a cute song and you know me..I had the crocodile tears. Then we sat down and enjoyed some yummy muffins, cheese and fruit. They had made some cute Mother's Day things with their hand and fingerprints for us to bring home. WOW! I'm so blessed! She is so tenderhearted and sweet and I am honored to be her mom!
Standing on the stage singing their sweet little Mother's Day song.
Eating her chocolate muffin. Can you see the blue flower pot with the pink flower in it that she made for me?
Is feeling older possible?
This was a very busy weekend and I am exhausted. We took part in our neighborhood's community yard sale. We didn't get in the bed until late Friday night only to get up just a few hours later to set up for the yard sale. It started at 7:00a and we weren't even finished setting up yet before some people strolled up the driveway at 6:30a-what are you going to do? Turn away a potential purchase?? I think not! It stormed pretty good during some of the morning time and we even had people getting out to come into the garage and look with it thundering and lightening. NOW those are some determined yard sale scavengers. Anyway we did "ok"..I'm thankful for every penny!! If you've ever done a yard sale you know how tiring it is and I was so thankful that it was finally over. BUT D & I decided to go to Walmart and get the boys some bunk beds and D wanted to put them together Saturday night so that was a fun project for us to do until we finished at 1:38am. I think we both passed out when we finally got in the bed.
Then on Sunday we went to church, then out to eat with an old friend and his daughter, then to Walmart to get the bedding and then to Sam's and Big Lots. And then we came home to tear down the crib and toddler bed and put up the bunk beds with mattresses and bedding. Oh and put some more stain on a huge armoire that D's mom gave us. Because of the yard sale and all the moving of furniture it looks like we are moving...it's crazy but I'm working on it!!
I certainly feel my age...actually I think I feel older. Is that possible? My mindset is that I am still as young as I was in high school. I still feel that way..like how can I be this old? It only seems like yesterday......you know how that story goes. But the truth is that I am getting older little bit by little bit every day and for some reason my hair thinks so too. I think I see more and more gray hairs everyday. I'm starting to think it's a conspiracy! Is it that I am getting old or am I getting my "crown of splendor" early? :)
HUGE!!
Just wanted to give ya'll a quick little update on Boogs. Both speech therapists came to the house today and were excited to see the difference in him from last week. When they came last week he didn't really want to engage in playing with them and he just basically went through the toy box and threw out the toys. Not really playing with anything in particular. Today was different. We stayed upstairs and played with playdoh and colored and he was right there with all of us the whole time. Plus he's been using alot more of the sign language that he has learned. We are working on learning more, but I'm happy that he is at least communicating in some way to us. The frustration factor has gone down a lot! Yesterday in the van on the way to pick up M#1 from school, he had a toy that M#2 wanted to play with and Boogs was actually telling him "No". I had to turn around (yes, while driving) to watch him tell M#2 "No". Now, I know that might not seem like a big deal to some, but to me it's everything! I am so excited!! ALSO, as some of you know, Boogs is a VERY picky eater. He pretty much eats the same things everyday. And it's not a big variety of stuff that he eats. He won't even try new things. If it's not what he's used to then he won't eat it.....WELL yesterday I actually got him to eat 3-4 Chick-fil-a nuggets. THAT IS HUGE!!! Praise the Lord!! Now, I don't know if I'll be able to accomplish that again, but I was so excited to at least see him try something new!! Of course, I had to snap a picture of him eating a nugget. :)
