Only Because My Scanner Wouldn't Work

I'm just now posting this because I couldn't get my scanner to work until today~it's weird. Anyway, we went last Tuesday with M&M's in tow to the doctor's office to hear the baby's heartbeat. We all crammed into the tiny little exam room and then the nurse came in to check my blood pressure and to put the goo on my stomach so that she could detect the heartbeat. We were making sure the kids were extra quiet so that they could hear the heartbeat. They were so excited to be able to go to the doctor with us. The nurse smeared and smeared that jelly all over my stomach with no heartbeat found. I was getting a little nervous. So she sent in my doctor's nurse practitioner to see if she could find the hearbeat. So we waited and waited and waited. Still nothing. I was freaking out because I was thinking something was wrong with the baby because if the nurse practitioner (who is basically like the dr.) couldn't find it then something must be wrong. She told me that my placenta was probably in the front and probably muffling the sound of the heartbeat. She suggested that we come back in two weeks, UM excuse me??, two weeks?? I was thinking, I can't wait two more weeks if something is really wrong. How am I supposed to do that without the 'worsts' constantly going through my mind? Then I remembered that we were planning to go out of town and wouldn't be there that second week so in turn, I would really be waiting three weeks and how could I go out of town on a vacation to enjoy myself with this nagging thought that something could be wrong with our little baby?

I started to cry. I think I just felt so overwhelmed with the not knowing and the fact that we were all disappointed that the babies didn't get to actually hear the heartbeat. SOOO, sweet as she is, she said she would send me for an ultrasound to make sure that everything was ok.

We went for the ultrasound and just as she said, the placenta was in the front and muffling the baby's heartbeat and all looked well with the baby on the ultrasound. I was so relieved and excited that the babies got to actually see the baby's heartbeat on the ultrasound. They got to see the baby moving around too. I don't know if Bud or Boogs really realizes what was going on, but I know Meggy knew. She was really excited to 'see' the baby and often pats my tummy and asks, "Momma, do you think the baby is ok in there?" She really is so sweet!! Here is our little baby...

I can't believe they were just going to make you WAIT TWO WEEKS! That's nuts! I thought they always did an ultrasound if they couldn't hear it. I had a friend that that happened to last week and the did the ultrasound. I'm so glad they did it for you also!
Congrats - and how fun for all of the kids!!
